OBS Studio Review

OBS Studio is free software that helps to create instructional videos. OBS is safe to download on Microsoft, Mac, and Linux platforms. The software also has streaming capabilities to connect to a YouTube channel or other live streaming media. A good beginner’s guide can be found here. The software is very simple to use once you learn the basics, and the best part is that it is totally free.

The current downside of OBS is that closed captioning is not an option provided. Luckily there is an answer for that as well! There is a web site called Web Captioner that provides captioning in real time, and requires no download. You just go to the site, click the “Start Captioning” button, and you are off and running! In tandem with the OBS software, you can create pretty useful videos and provide captioning, if needed. The web captioning site is also great if you are giving a live presentation and have someone who is hearing impaired in the audience, or you are anticipating a noisy setting. You can just open the site, snap the page to the side of your screen, and give your presentation while being able to accommodate everyone in attendance. It’s a good idea to try Web Captioner beforehand so that you know how loudly and clearly you need to speak in order for the text to come out clearly.
